Are we really Independent?
15 August 2017. India is going to enter the 70th year of independence. But do you consider yourself actually free? How do you see the freedom? Is it like not sending our daughters out after 8 PM? Or is it like sharing an opinion on something and being considered anti-national? Or is it like following a different culture and being termed as “Non-Sanskari”? Where does the freedom lies in all this?
For me its just a legacy passed on from the British Govt. ruling over Indians to Indian Govt. to rule over Indians in an almost similar way. Or should I correct it to Indians to rule over Indians who can bend the rules in whatever way they want and can live a chill life while sitting on a chair with their legs crossed.
What kind of independence it is where we don’t have right to say what we want. Or if we do we are judged on the basis of our caste or religion. We can say anything about our own religion but judged when we presented our opinion we something we don’t own and often considered as ‘Defaming’ it. This is not the kind of freedom I consider being independent.
If only breathing is ought to be being independent then I don’t want this kind of freedom. No one wants a freedom where one can’t pursue his choices and have to rely on what others want me to do. You are here to live on your own terms and not others. You don’t have to rely on the thoughts of others what they think or what they do. If you do, you are not independent.
Everyone has freedom to do what they want as long as it is right in the eyes of law. No law mentions that girls can’t go out after 8. Everyone has that right and laws are same for everyone. Well, they are supposed to be. But because of some immoral humans of our society, a whole community has to suffer. No one wants this kind of freedom.
We live in a society where we are only allowed to be married in the same caste and that too with the consent of parents. Thinking about love marriage is considered a crime and if that is intercaste then god save you. You are doomed. What kind of independence is this?
Being independent comes with the perk that you can present your opinion on anything even if it is full of bullshit. Like this tweet by so called independent writer Mr. Ravikaran.
What an abhorrent piece of ad is this. Shows Babasaheb picking up trash. Highly castiest ad by the government of India. Must be withdrawn! pic.twitter.com/lq8UH8r75E

Isn’t cleanliness supposed to be everyone’s duty irrespective of his caste or his position. But people like him too independent to portray this in a negative way. I maybe sounding like a hypocrite but somethings just need to be exposed.
I think independence is just waiting for the 15 August and singing some patriotic songs and sharing that nationalism feeling for being freed from the slavery of Britishers. Independence means nothing more in this country. Only fulfilling our duties will not lead to independence. One has to believe and respect the law and make it unbiased equity for everyone. Only then we can achieve true independence. Otherwise independence is a myth.
You can live freely but terms & conditions applied.
So are you really living with freedom? Comment your views. Happy 70th Independence Day India
